Tourists on a popular beach in Bali were horrified when a blackened object that appeared to be a decaying foot washed ashore, according to a report.
Police said they were investigating whether the gruesome find at Berawa Beach was a human foot, The Sun reported.
“We are still looking into it,” North Kuta police chief Marzel Doni said. “We don’t know the cause, or who it belongs to. There’s a possibility that it’s old, and it’s only one part so we can’t be certain yet.”
Authorities said there were no reports of any missing people in the area so far this year, according to the news outlet.
It is not the first time mysterious remains have washed up on a beach.
In 2018, a human foot was found inside a running shoe on an island off the coast of British Columbia, The Sun reported. It was determined to belong to missing 79-year-old Stanley Okumoto.
More recently, a Wisconsin beachcomber discovered what appeared to be a brain that had washed ashore.
