A man was attacked by a shark while swimming off South Beach in Florida, leaving him with a nasty 8-inch gash, according to reports.

The 31-year-old victim managed to walk out of the water with his leg gushing blood after the encounter Wednesday off a stretch of the beach near The Clevelander, a popular hotel on Ocean Drive.

“He walked out of the water, bleeding, with at least about six bite marks on him,” the man told WPLG. “Suddenly he came out of the water; he fell down.”

A Miami Beach Fire Rescue crew managed to stop the man’s bleeding, but took him to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, a spokeswoman told the Miami Herald.

Video of the aftermath of the attack obtained by WPLG shows several paramedics tending to the victim and his bloodied right leg, which was kept elevated. The attack happened at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, the station reported.

One witness who asked not to be identified said he saw the fin of what is believed to be a blacktip shark in the water just prior to the attack — and thought it was a dolphin.

The witness then saw the victim frantically swimming away, he said.

Schools of bait fish appeared to be in the area at the time of the attack, a city spokeswoman told the Herald.

The incident prompted Miami Beach Fire Rescue officials to post double red flags nearby, warning visitors not to enter the water Wednesday afternoon, the spokeswoman said.

Some online couldn’t believe such an attack happened in an area with fancy hotels.

“Like literally across the street from The Clevelander,” one person tweeted. “2020 still in full effect.”
