Chicago doctors were able to save an unborn baby whose eight-months pregnant mom was shot dead early Tuesday.
Stacy Jones, 35, was found collapsed with two bullet wounds in her back just after midnight in the city’s troubled South Side, police told the Chicago Tribune.
She was pronounced dead within the hour at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where doctors managed to deliver her baby, the paper said.
The child was transferred to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, police said.
Like the Big Apple, the Chicago area has seen a dramatic increase in shootings this year. No motive was given for Jones’ murder.
