Two Virginia teenagers allegedly killed a bicyclist in an illegal street race that killed a bicyclist, police said.

Anthony Francis Tempesco, 19, and Hallam Alexander Guiler, 18, both of Virginia Beach, have been charged with causing the death of another while engaging in a race in Thursday’s smash-up that killed a 59-year-old man who was riding his bike, The Virginian-Pilot reported Monday.

Tempesco was behind the wheel of a 2016 Ford sedan while Guiler was driving a 2009 Audi when Tempesco’s car hit Edward Charles Richardson at about 8 p.m. Thursday near Indian Lakes Boulevard and Halifax Drive, a police spokeswoman told the newspaper.

Richardson, who was also from Virginia Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene, WVEC reported.

Police said both Tempesco and Guiler remained at the crash site following the crash, which shut down parts of Indian Lakes Boulevard for several hours, according to the Virginian-Pilot.

Tempesco and Guiler remained jailed without bond Tuesday in Virginia Beach, online records show. It’s unclear if they’ve hired attorneys who could comment on their behalf.

The teens, whose next court appearances had not been scheduled as of Tuesday, face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
