Nancy Mace, a freshman Republican Congresswoman from South Carolina, called out the Squad for their dramatic response to the news that Rep. Ilhan Omar had been removed from a House Foreign Affairs Committee.
In a tweet made after Omar was removed from the committee, Mace called out the Squad’s “drama queen theatrics” and said their “temper tantrum” was “unbecoming of members of Congress.”
While Mace’s comments were made in response to the squad’s response to Omar’s removal, her sentiment is nothing new. Mace has been very vocal about the Squad and their tactics since her arrival to Congress.
In a statement to Fox News, Mace said, “I’m tired of the Squad blaming and name-calling whenever they don’t get their way. The American people are tired of it too. The squad’s behavior is an embarrassment and does nothing to help our efforts to reach across the aisle and work together to solve real problems for the American people.”
Mace went on to note that the squad’s behavior was “unbecoming of members of Congress” and that “Congressional theatrics have no place in Washington.”
The four squad members – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) – have been vocal in their opposition to President Trump and the Republican party since taking office. Their responses to Omar’s removal from the committee were no exception, with Ocasio-Cortez and Pressley reportedly firing off tweets almost immediately after the news was announced.
Members of the Republican party have been vocal in their criticism of the squad, with many viewing their tactics as divisive and unproductive. Mace’s comments are just the latest in a series of criticisms from Republicans and are indicative of the ongoing tension between the two parties.
